 I began calling because I saw so many people enjoying an activity that was mentally challenging and provided a good deal of exercise. I had taken dance lessons in Carleton Place and danced for 10 years. I took a square dance calling course conducted by John and Wendy Charman here in Ottawa followed by three courses in the US in the years 2001, 2003 and 2006. I had a square dance club for one year. I have been calling a tip lately at the club I've danced at for the past ten years as well as forming a group of some 28 seniors beginning to dance in a church basement. If this group has nothing but fun and fellowship it will fufill my objectives. Learning to square dance will be icing on the cake. It was always a pleasure to call a demo dance at senior residences and other country fairs and community groups. I continue to call in an effort to give back something to the square dance community that has given my wife and I such fun and great friends since l990. My clubs of choice have been with Geoff Clarke at the Town and Kountry Kickers and Trackers. |
