Background
on this 'new' club.....
In the fall of 2006, Geoff asked a few dancers to assist
him to learn to teach/call the A1 program. The initial group of a single
square grew to 2 squares (maximum basement capacity) that first year &
comprised of dancers who were ready & willing to assist Geoff with his
quest. The dancer mix was mostly those ready for the challenge of
learning A1, but we also had a few experienced in the program. Over the
next two dance seasons, the group worked well together and although there were some
changes as several couples did not continue, others willingly stepped into
those voids. The group dynamics was one of "fun" and each
session was an easy going learning experience for all involved. It was
during the second year that the group decided they wanted a simple name (other
than "the Wednesday morning basement learning A1 group").
After a thoroughly democratic process, the name chosen was
"Lockits". No, we weren't a club per se, just a loose gathering of
dancers, but were a 'group of dancers' who wanted their own distinctive name!
This
group has worked very well together and have learned the complete A1 moves
from 'standard' position up to now, with many done from an APD perspective;
which is what A1 (Advanced) dancing is all about - generally 'all position -
all the time' (as Geoff puts it). Towards the end of the second year, the
group has seen a number of the moves from various arrangements & formations
- and that will continue. Geoff is very appreciative of the gang that
worked with him over the 2 years as they learned together; having fun even
though we all made mistakes along the way!
Geoff decided as it reached the end of the second year, that it was time
to move out of the basement into a location that would allow the group to
expand beyond the 2 squares and to formally launch it as an EOSARDA Club for the fall of 2008. This will open up the opportunity for more dancers to
participate.
So on Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 @ 9:30am The
LOCKITS A1 Club was launched!

A
"Teaching" Club
Using the same approach as he did when starting his
Plus club (Trackers), Geoff will be a using a 'teach' & 'dance'
format. The tips will alternate between 'teaching' the A1 moves, and
dancing the full A1 program. With experienced dancers on hand, it's anticipated that
the learning process for all will be much
faster. The teaching tips will also serve as a good review for
those that have completed the program before. As with all things 'new', this
is the initial 'game plan', and if necessary will be modified as we go!

Single/Solo
Dancers
Solo dancers (both male & female) are welcome to
attend, but they will need to 'pre-arrange' to have a partner to dance
with on a regular basis. The club will not
have 'Angels' available to dance with the solo dancers. If you
are a 'solo' dancer that would like to attend but have been unable to find a
partner, then contact Geoff to find out if he's aware of any other solo dancers
available that you may be able to 'partner' with.

Mixer
Cards
We will be using dancer 'mixer' cards to make sure that everyone has an equal
opportunity to dance. If we do end up with an odd number of
couples to make up squares, these cards ensure that everyone equally
gets the chance to dance, &/or sit out a tip.

Dancing
Fees
$5.00 per dancer per week.

Other
stuff.....
- There will be a 'sign-in' sheet at the front for
everyone to sign-in & pay their dance fee. On your very
first week you'll be asked to fill out a registration form so that we have
your contact information, email etc. so that you'll be kept well informed on
club activity.
- The hall has a nice tile floor, so as is customary, please ensure you carry your dance shoes into the hall &
change upon arrival. There are places to hang your coats & change your
shoes, right at the front door. The hall entrance is through the double
doors that front on the main road at the east end of the building complex.
- Parking is plentiful & you can park at the front
in the designated areas, or in the east side parking lot.
- No refreshments will be supplied, so please bring
your own drinking water (there is a tap in the kitchen should you need it).
Note that we're promoting "Lug a Mug" - bring your
own mug for your water to cut down on the number of Styrofoam cups being
used! Thanks !
